Op.Eklekt & Kazco Takemoto - Ibunka Yukyo
9/6 (mon), 7 pm; 9/7 (tue), 3 pm & 7 pm. Mutsumi Oku from Kyoto hasn't really thought about a name for her unique dance style yet, but "comic dance" or "manga dance" would come close to what it looks like. Her performances usually feature short sequences of pantomime-like, unnatural imitations of animals or human behavior, which are best described as an "animated version of German Ausdruckstanz". Each of those scenes has a name such as "man lifting his bottom" or "gokiburi." Regarding her partner for these performances, Kazco Takemoto from Dance Venus, whose roots lie more in the American-style modern dance, Oku explains about her style that "when she (Takemoto) dances like a fish, I dance like a robot-fish..." The diverse program of these two contrasting dancers consists of the following three parts: 1. Op.Eklekt - Der Wachtraum II, featuring Nobuo Kaneya (pantomime) and Mutsumi Oku (dance). 2. Kazco Takemoto - Suimen Ni Utsushidasareta Tsuki (Moon reflecting on the water), featuring music by Meredith Monk 3. Chigai O Asobu, featuring Nobuo Kaneya, Mutsumi Oku, and Kazco Takemoto, plus Theremin player Kenji Yoshioka. a ¥3,300; d ¥3,600; s ¥3,000 Tokyo Geijutsu Gekijo, Ikebukuro (5391-2111) |
