Rock 'n' Roll Diner

Tired of natto for breakfast and soba for lunch? Try one of the more established American diners. How about the Rock'n Roll Diner in Shimokitazawa?

Mountains of rough-cut french fries and huge hamburgers are served here with a smile. But the food is not the only thing. The 60s music and the waitresses wearing 60s-style aprons, the decorations and everything else take you on a time warp back to a time worth revisiting.

A giant 270-seat dining hall and a DJ who does requests. What else could you ask for - for your birthday, party or wedding reception? And speaking of birthdays, if you notify the staff a day in advance, you will get a special birthday cake, and all the waitresses will sing Happy Birthday and make all the other customers join in.

Got the munchies? Try the Super Nachos (Yen 1,380) served with various dips and sour cream, or Jagita (grilled veggies rolled in tortillas, from Yen 1,580). And then there's the one and only Rock'n Roll Burger (Yen 1,480), made to order just the way they used to in the days of the American old school of burger making.

The Rock'n Roll Diner is more than just an restaurant. It's like a theme park for all ages, from toddlers to silver-aged rockers. Whetted your appetite yet? Just take the Odakyu Line out of Shinjuku. It's much faster, shorter and cheaper than a trip to Disneyland.
