Benio Takara is an elegant woman. Tastefully dressed. Polite, with perfect manners.
She’s young.
She’s beautiful.
She’s independent.
Sometimes she likes her own company. Reading a book or listening to classical music. Sipping a glass of red wine.
Benio doesn’t work.
She doesn’t have to.
She has men at her feet dying to serve her.

Benio’s an independent mistress.
Call her a dominatrix if you will.
She is a rope artist, skilled in the art of Japanese bondage.
On occasion she’ll display her rope work to an audience.
On stage.
Using female slaves.
Benio on qiqong
One small mistake and my girl may choke to death, break her neck or get injured in a thousand other ways. Qiqong helps me control my breathing and stay focused.
Benio on Tao
My performances always consist of two parts: traditional Japanese bondage and modern western bondage. East meets West — old and new together are creating the perfect balance.
Benio on art
While male rope artists may emphasize domination and the sexual elements, I tend to focus more on the aspect of pure beauty, the symbolism, the image, the subconscious. I like to stimulate the imagination of the audience.
Benio has a reputation among her initiates for leading them into dreams spun with the magic of fairies “creating secret worlds that please the eye and titillate the dormant senses.”

At a performance in December, she traded her hemp ropes for a string of lights, setting sparklers raining from the breasts of her hapless model. With arms pinioned as if nailed to an invisible crucifix, and a cloth wrapped around her ankles, she looked not unlike an uprooted Xmas tree: a compound of the symbolism of Christianity from the garish to the sublime.
At other times, Benio might bandage her model from head to toe with cling-film, creating an cocooned statue sealed with heavy iron chains, unable to resist the hot wax, then red wine, pouring down her wriggling body.
Benio might even include ikebana in her act; using the soft body of the tied-up woman as fertile soil for embracing the stems of flowers and twigs, giving new meaning to the concepts of life, love, growth, gardening, procreation, birth . . .
