When in Ginza, do as New Yorkers do.
By day Ginza is home to deluxe department stores, high-class eateries,
fashion palaces and jewelry stores, and by night to some of the
most exclusive nightclubs. A casual after-sunset stroll down the
smaller side streets that run off the main boulevards will reveal
double-parked luxury limousines with white-gloved chauffeurs
their passengers in crystal-chandeliered establishments staffed
by sophisticated women wearing priceless jewelry. In this world,
where men are measured by the sizes of their wallets, you will
find off-duty mafia big shots belting out songs on the karaoke
machine next to groups of company executives celebrating lucrative
business contracts.
But Ginza at night is also full of ordinary people looking for
a good time. The streets are packed with after-shoppers and office
workers out for a drink or two, occupying hundreds of bars and
eateries. One such place is Naos which has lately become a hot
spot for office ladies. Its tables are filled with groups of young
women who seem to enjoy the casual atmosphere of this New York-style
restaurant that also provides a generous choice of wines. The
eclectic food menu is for reference only, as customers are encouraged
to design their own dishes. So rather than choose from twenty
types of pasta dishes, select your own ingredients or follow the
chefs recommendation of the day.
