Twinstar

Twinstar is not a Jazz club in the strict sense of the word, but it is certain to jazz you up when you come round. Scaling the long escalator to the entrance, visitors will marvel at the extraordinarily high ceilings covered with murals reminiscent of Gustav Klimpt. Their gold and vanilla hues compliment the glass, wood and burnished steel interior.

There is only one word that can really describe Twinstar - classy. Stow your belongings in a locker and slip through the sliding doors to the dance floor to witness the spectacle within. It looks a lot like a Pink Floyd concert -laser beams, flashing lights, smoke machine fog - but there's nothing tacky about it. Duck into the dark lounge and saddle up to the bar for a cocktail, or walk upstairs for the Italian buffet which awaits.

The food is well prepared with all that you want of pasta, lasagna, salads, lightly breaded fish, or pork picata in a tomato sauce with broccoli. You can tell that Twinstar takes food seriously because they employ a fellow whose sole duty is to quick-boil your noodles.

With the music pumping from DJ Kotaro's turntables, you might want to hit the floor to work off all of that just-eaten food. Women dance on mini stages above the crowd, providing visual stimulation to keep you on the beat. But if you just want to chill out with a Fuzzy Navel, then the comfy sofa on the second floor is the place to crash.

Twinstar is also popular for Sunday wedding parties, and their private glass-enclosed rooms can be reserved for any special occasion. If it's your birthday, let them know and they'll surprise you with a cake. This is the right place to paint the town red and have a real dress-up night to remember.

Open from 6:30pm-12am. Tuesday to Saturday.

Entrance fee: Yen 4,000 men/Yen 3,000 women.
